WE SELL NON-BLACK ITEMS

Sunday, August 30th, 2009

A lot of people, coming upon these little gems in the store always gush about how interesting they look. Maybe because these Osborn shoes deviate from our choice color, black. An aberrant item for us here — they are quite “fun” looking. Aren’t they? Fun… AND responsible. Also reasonable for a pair of hand done almost-oxford easy-to-wear shoes!

These shoes are designed by Brooklyn-based Aaron and Carla Osborn, produced in Guatemala by a small team of craftworkers, not some gross monster factory in Vietnam (sad face). And they are also made from traditional colored textiles. Yay for being unique!

LEGENDS OF POP

Friday, August 21st, 2009

Last night was the release of Chris Habana’s collaboration with Oak concept store A.OK over at Bond Street. Unfortunately I was on duty over here at Williamsburg and missed the whole thing – this was a hard thing to stomach because I not only adore Chris’ work but the man, himself – but bright and early Oak Online News has photos and it looks like it was a great success, describing it as, “it all kicked off at oak bond last night, with the launch of chrishabana’s legends of pop collection. chris habana entertained a host of editors and pretty fashion folk, while oak manned the tills for a crowd hungry for the limited edition jewelry collection, exclusive to a.ok.”! I cant wait to see the pieces in person.

The Pieces:

Hangin Tough Earring / Madonna Bralette Necklace / Janet Key Earring / Michael Jackson Glove Necklace / Boy George Hat Necklace

WHAT THE CRITICS SAID

Tuesday, August 18th, 2009

On Friday night, we hosted yet another hugely successful event at Williamsburg Oak. This time it was all about the art and, as if the turn out wasnt reward enough, we got endless coverage on blogs of all kinds, before and after.

- NY MAG Events
Oak is teaming up with art zine FakeOrange to host an art show at its Williamsburg store. The exhibit includes a video installation by Konstantinos Menelaou and works by Coley Brown and Peter Demos. D.J. Japanster will spin.”

- NBC New York Daily Deal

If you’re heading to the Williamsburg Art Crawl after work today, stop by Oak’s special Art-Zine event, being held in collaboration with indie zine FakeOrange. Oh, and shop the store’s latest with a cocktail in your hand.

Expect video installations by contemporary artists, new works “dedicated to all things Oak,” a DJ, and of course, the aforementioned booze. While you’re there, check out the store’s just-arrived fall collections from designers like Acne (pictured), Alexander Wang, Henrik Vibskov, and minimalist basics from the shop’s in-house label.

- The Totam Style
A ‘zine party held at Oak NYC’s Williamsburg, Brooklyn store was the perfect way to start the weekend last Friday night. Fake Orange, a smallish flip book style ‘zine of xeroxed artwork held an art show of a dozen or so rising artists in the back room, while music was provided by DJ Japanster (spinning Depeche Mode and Talking Heads). Edward Gorey-esque illustrations of odd amorphous creatures by Megan Galante hung near Ellen Frances‘ curious black and white photography and graphics. Projections of a fashion shoot flickered above the makeshift bar which served champagne to an overflowing room of guests. Oak which is known for its tightly curated clothing and accessories by Alexander Wang, Acne, and a long roster of other indie designers proved their adeptness at blending fashion with art and music as exhibited at this multimedia event.

- POP Magazine Online
Last week during the Williamsburg Art Crawl in Brooklyn, I got to check out the awesome work of Ellen Frances over at OAK. They’re all so bold and just ooze coolness. I think she would be the perfect collaborator for a super rad fashion editorial, can’t you just imagine it?
