A.OK TAKES OVER WILLIAMSBURG

Friday, July 10th, 2009

To make room for the brief return of the Oak Showroom, Bond Street has temporarily closed the downstairs A.OK and moved ALL of the product to the Williamsburg store! Not only that, but A.OK has taken over the front of the store and the window display. THERE IS SO MUCH STUFF! Come in and check it out while it lasts!

WHAT THEY LEFT WITH

Thursday, July 9th, 2009

Courtney, a Williamsburg customer, came in to scope out the 30/40/50 Sale and left with a Monrow Poncho, A.OK shorts, Erin Wasson tank and F-Troupe Shoes. Such a cute outfit – she looks great and so Summer ready, just in time for an improvement in the weather!

THE CAPE TREND

Like my obsession with the Snuggie blanket. The kitsch of wearing a direct-sleeved blanket died as quickly as it took to get stuck in my bike spokes. However, my love for Lindsey Thornburg wool blanket cloaks has yet to wane. It was the beautiful, vintage-patterned item on the mannequin that initially struck me, drawing me into the Oak Williamsburg for the first time last October. I was penniless at the time, so I never bought one, and I’ve always regretted it. Luckily for me, there’s such thing as second chances, and we’ll be getting some mid-length cloaks just in time for Fall 09! I’m not letting this baby go this time.

LD TUTTLE FOR FALL

Tuesday, July 7th, 2009

Anyone who knows me knows that I am absolutely, 100%, completely, totally, and utterly obsessed with LD Tuttle. Every season I am awe struck by the beautiful designs from the brilliant minds that design these shoes. From the boots to the heels to the sandals, every pair is a wearable work of art, created carefully with both style and comfort in mind. Ive purchased and repurchased boots so that I can wear them to death as often as I wish and Ive paraded around in the Stag sandals for hours at a time, always admiringly distracted by how good my legs and feet look in them. This Fall, Oak welcomes several new designs as well as several familiar looks by LD Tuttle for women, but even more amazing are the pairs now available for men:

Women

Men

Seriously astounding. I cant even decide which pair I want the most.

MORE ON MCCARREN POOL PARTIES

Thursday, July 2nd, 2009

The line-ups and schedule for the end of the summer have just been announced. Heres what Pitchfork has to say:

For the last few summer’s JellyNYC’s Pool Parties have been holding it down as arguably New York’s funnest free show series (a urprisingly competitive title). Held at Greenpoint’s gigantic McCarren Park Pool in the past, the Pool Parties were nearly as notable for their hot-weather activities (dodgeball, a huge slip ‘n slide) as for the bands they hosted.

McCarren Park Pool is about to reopen as an actual swimming pool, so this summer, the JellyNYC people have a new location: East River State Park on the Williamsburg Waterfront. They’re still calling these shows Pool Parties, though, and the dodgeball and slip ‘n slide will make their triumphant returns. UPDATE: the slip ‘n slide has been replaced with kiddie pools!

More importantly, the JellyNYC folks have just announced their schedule for this summer, and this thing is a monster. Mission of Burma and Fucked Up and Ponytail and Jemina Pearl from Be Your Own Pet on the same day? The epic Deerhunter/No Age/Dan Deacon round robin tour? Grizzly Bear and Beach House? Dirty Projectors and Magnolia Electric Co.? Girl Talk and Max Tundra and frickin Wiz Khalifa?! All the broke, unemployed people in New York will now have something to do with their Sundays.

July 12:
Mission of Burma,
Fucked Up,
Ponytail
, Jemina Pearl

July 19:
Dirty Projectors
, Magnolia Electric Co., White Denim

July 26: …And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead, Black Lips
, HEALTH,
Grupo Fantasmo

August 2: Deerhunter, No Age, Dan Deacon

 (Round Robin show)

August 9:
Simian Mobile Disco (DJ set)
, Fiery Furnaces
, Dark Meat,
The Netherlands

August 16: Del the Funky Homosapien,
Gravy Train!!!
, DD/MM/YYYY, Kenan Bell

August 23:
Girl Talk
, Max Tundra
, Wiz Khalifa

August 30: Grizzly Bear
, Beach House

I was beginning to worry wed never see the final score but here it is, folks, the return of McCarren Pool Parties – this time with actual pools! Kiddie ones, of course, but still! Such a good summer over there. I really cant believe it. Because Im really cool Ive seen probably 90% of those bands but all acts Id be willing to endure again and again, especially for free. Hope to see you there!
